For something that will last forever and will be useful you could send a flower pen. You could also send a plant; there are many pretty cactuses that take very little care.

To keep the tired student awake those long nights of reading and studying you could send a coffee gift basket. Find out their favorite type of coffee and see if that company has gift baskets. If not, then finding out their favorite flavor and getting it from another company will probably be just as good.
